Building a Marketplace on WooCommerce

Mike Moloney is the founder and CEO of FilterGrade, a marketplace where photographers, filmmakers and designers sell digital products like Lightroom presets, video LUTs, overlays and templates. He started FilterGrade in 2013 by selling his own Photoshop actions. He then moved to his own WooCommerce store and later opened it up to thousands of other creators.

In this episode of Do the Woo, hosts Katie Keith from Barn2 Plugins and James Kemp from Woo talk with Mike about running a multi-vendor marketplace on WooCommerce for more than ten years. They cover how FilterGrade found and onboarded its first sellers, how commission and payouts work, the plugins and hosting behind the site, and what Mike changed when search traffic dropped.

Lots of store owners consider letting other sellers list products on their WooCommerce store. Mike’s experience shows what that involves in practice, from seller onboarding and quality control to running a business when you only keep part of each sale. This episode is relevant to anyone running or planning a multi-vendor store, selling digital products, or relying on content and search for traffic.
